Engaging Students Through Academic Rigor:
The Key to Improved Achievement, Attendance, and Behavior
Wednesday, December 6, 2023
2:00 - 3:00 PM EST
Going Beyond Traditional Engagement
The most engaged students are those who are intrinsically motivated and eager to learn. Traditional student engagement strategies often fail to provide the academic rigor and student-led structures that develop students’ intrinsic motivation.
Creating a Rigorous Academic Culture
In this virtual seminar, we will explore research-based methods for creating a rigorous academic culture centered on students taking ownership of their learning and building the skills to thrive in life. These strategies are proven to substantially raise achievement in schools serving high free and reduced lunch populations.
Students develop self-efficacy, and perseverance, and engage in deeper learning with rigorous, standards-based work that promotes productive struggle in the classroom. By creating an academic culture where students celebrate their own and their peers’ progress and feel motivated in teams, students become excited to come to school and excel. Schools see lasting positive changes in achievement, attendance, and behavior.
One School's Story
In our seminar, we will highlight how transforming student engagement at Galileo Middle School in Colorado Springs is leading to dramatic improvements in student behavior after just months of implementing these strategies.
